  • Proverbs 3:3 (NKJV) Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.

Turns out that mercy and truth are character issues. You must first be merciful and truthful before you can extend mercy to others and consistently tell the truth.

In other words, someone who withholds mercy does so because they are a judgmental and vengeful person; so don’t hold it against them – they can’t help it that is just what they are. And the person that can’t tell the truth? Deal with it, the reason they lie is because they are a liar.

The good news is that Jesus specializes in helping people be born again. What we all need is not a little renovating or reforming, what we need is to be born again – into the likeness of Jesus Christ.

Turns out that Christianity is first about who we are; that determines what we do.
