- Exodus 15:18 (NKJV) “The LORD shall reign forever and ever.”
Over the years I observed that “distinction” doesn’t last. The “now greats” will one day be the “once greats”. Remember Xerox, Polaroid and AOL? Remember Lance Armstrong, Mohammed Ali, and General Schwarzkopf?
Whatever the field this happens, whether it be today’s famous sport’s figure, movie star, author, politician or CEO – eventually they all (at best) join the ranks of “once great”.
The point is this: Focus on those distinctions that will last forever.
Yesterday I reminded you to be mindful of your distinctive difference (your personal touch). However, the temptation is to think in turns of being distinctive in areas that are only temporary.
However, there are a few things that you can forever be distinctive in. For example:
- Worship – no one can worship God like you; this is true forever.
- Love – no one can or every will be able to love your family like you.
For example, my parents can never have another son – I am distinctive. I can leverage that distinctive to bring great joy to my parents and myself or I can squander it.
Take for example my children – I am distinctive there as well. They can only have one father. I can leverage that distinctive to bring great joy and benefit to my children and myself or I can become sidetrack on those “once great” areas and squander it. (I won’t even get started on the joyful distinction of being “Papa” :))
Bottom line, don’t get so caught up in being distinctive in those areas that will not last that you forget the real opportunities to be great forever.
Really good!
