- Luke 21:34 (NKJV) But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly.
Have you ever thanked God for Novocain? You have if you’ve visited the dentist for “serious” work on your teeth. Novocain was developed by a German chemist by the name of Albert Einhorn in 1905. Originally he developed it as the first local anesthetic but he could not get the doctors to use it; they preferred total anesthesia (they only accepted Novocain during World War I). But totally unexpectedly, dentists began to travel up and down Germany making speeches against Novocain’s use in dentistry. Their reason? He had not designed it for that purpose!”
I couldn’t help but chuckle when I learned that. I also felt a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit: Could we do the same thing with 40-days of Prayer & Fasting?
Originally, our 40-days of Prayer & Fasting was started as a time of spiritual renewal and recalibration to begin each New Year. But what if God desires to perform a totally new and unexpected thing in your life through this 40-days? What if, years from now you (and your family) could look back on this year as the beginning of a new direction for your entire family – totally unexpected – because 40-days was not originally designed for what it achieved in your life?
You’ll never know if you don’t get involved or if you don’t stay open to what God wants to do in your life.
