Randy Alcorn in his book, The Treasure Principle, writes: “Ask yourself, ‘Five minutes after I die, what will I wish I would have given away while I still had a chance?’ When you come up with an answer, why not give it away now.” (page 81)
That’s good advice – not only for dying but for living. Why not take a year-end inventory in order to participate in a give away:
- Bless your local church with a special year-end gift so that it can have a leg up on its mission for 2013. (Giving to your church is like giving to Jesus’ wife, you know that makes Him happy)
- Do the same for a non-profit organization.
- And those Christmas gifts: Instead of piling yet more things on your shelves and in your closets why not let each new addition replace something you already own. When making the switch give away to a worthy ministry/charity/person the items that you replaced. In other words, accumulate things in Heaven, not on earth
19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
(Matthew 6:19-20)
