- Romans 15:5-6 (NKJV) Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, 6 that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
I love my family and my church family very much. Having said that, there is no denying that whether at home or at church there are “those moments” when getting along can be difficult. (Just ask Sonja about having to get along with me! // God bless her.)
Just the fact that Paul had to write to the church at Rome and give specific instructions to them about “getting along” brings me great comfort. As wired to be relational as we humans are, those “wires” do misfire – often.
However, the next time you get upset at someone, remember how God feels: As must as He loves you, you get on his “nerves” sometimes. That is why He is a “God of patience and comfort”. Remember that the next time you find yourself getting impatient and upset with someone.
Remember, “being like-minded toward one another according to Christ Jesus” (being like Jesus) wouldn’t be an issue if it were easy. After all, no one is impressed by honeymooners acting like honeymooners. What is impressive is “golden anniversary-ers” acting like honeymooners. Now that takes a lot of patience and commitment.
Bottom line, practice a little patience today with those difficult people in your life and comfort yourself that you are glorifying God and being a witness to the world that you truly are a member of the family of God.
