Today’s ONE THING: Grab a Walking Stick!

  • Acts 28:15 (NKJV) And from there, when the brethren heard about us, they came to meet us as far as Appii Forum and Three Inns. When Paul saw them, he thanked God and took courage.

If I were to ask you to give me a short list of the people in your life that drain you the most, would your best friends be at the top of the list?

Most often when we think of high maintenance and draining relationships we do not think in terms of best friends (people we want to be with), most often we think in terms of people we have to be with (you know, that “pain-in-the-you-know-what” guy at work, etc.).

However, today’s verse is a reminder that great relationships require great investments.  The “brethren” in today’s verse walked over 40 miles to be at the port when weary and discouraged Paul debarked from his ship.  Their effort and thoughtfulness was the soul food that encouraged Paul to press on.

Isn’t it amazing the trouble we go to trying to get along with some people and then how stingy we are with those we love the most?
