- John 4:9 Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.
Have you surprised anyone lately by speaking to them? As the old-timers used to say, we can become sot (set) in our ways. If you’re not careful, you will insulate yourself from people different from you. You can live in an invisible cage where in reality you seldom “get out” from your usual routine. Your world can become small to the point that you hang around mostly the same people (people like you) and you go mostly to the same places.
Remember, Jesus didn’t leave us with a promise of comfort but with a challenging commission – “Go into the world.”
If you’re not surprising people by speaking to people who would never think you’d care about them then I suspect you’ve lost your heart for Jesus.
Remember, if you’re following Jesus you will be consistently going out of your comfort zone and interacting with people who you’d never interact with normally.
Surprise somebody today, open the door of your cage and get out today!
