Today’s ONE THING: Take a break.

  • John 4:7 A woman of Samaria came to draw water.

You probably woke up this morning with the realization that you needed to go somewhere or go meet someone.  And if you do not have somewhere to go or someone to go meet you probably feel tempted to feel bad about it.

We live in a society that stresses the need to be busy; there is the relentless pressure to be up and at it – going places and doing things.

However, in today’s verses we can learn an excellent lesson from Jesus: be open for life to come to you.

On this particular day (John 4:1-42) Jesus was tired so he stopped and rested and waited.  As a result, he had an opportunity to minister to a woman who was very much in need of “living water.”

You may be in that stage of life where you feel the pressure to be doing more things and going more places than is humanly possible.  Let me guess…you’re tired.  Why not intentionally find a moment or two today to rest and allow life to come to you.

You may be in that stage of life where you feel that life is moving on and leaving you behind; you wish you had somewhere to go and someone to see.

Either way, I encourage you to find a quiet spot and sit and wait.  I can assure you that soon you’ll hear the soft sound of sandaled feet coming to commune with you; and that will make all the difference.

When I was boy we used to sing a little song that said, “Standing somewhere in the shadows you’re find Jesus.  He’s a friend who always cares and understands.  Standing somewhere in the shadows you’re find Jesus, and you’ll know him by the nail prints in his hands.”

The noise and confusion of life can often drown out the kind and caring voice of our Savior, why not find that quiet spot today and rest awhile, you’re be ever so happy you did.
