Today’s ONE THING: Rest in the Rountine

  • John 4:6 Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied from His journey, sat thus by the well. It was about the sixth hour.

Today’s verse is so earthy, normal and routine.  But then, we must never forget that Jesus is God/man.  While here on earth, he had those “divine moments” where he lit heavenly fireworks and amazed the people, but there was a lot of routine living between those divine appointments.

There is a lot to be learned in the routine.  For example, like Jesus, sometime today you are going to be weary.  I encourage you to follow Jesus’ example – stop and take a break.  Better yet, find a place like Jacob’s well that has a special meaning for you and sit down and rest.  It will be in those moments that God restores you and refreshes you and prepares you for the rest of the day.

I call them “mini-Sabbaths” and I plan on them throughout my day…I invite you to join me today; you’ll be surprised how God will use those moments to set you up for doing something that really matters.

Why do you rush so?  “Be still and know that I am God.” (Psalm 46:10)
