- John 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
- 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
Living a Christian life is no tepid affair. John reminds us in John 3:20 that the reason people do not come to God is that they hate the light. Or put another way, John says in verse 19 that the reason people do not come to God is that they love darkness rather than light.
In other words, people go to heaven or hell because of love and hate. Sinners love their sin and hate God and Christian love God and hate their sin.
Above all dear friend, do not allow your relationship with God to turn into a lukewarm causal affair. There is more hope for the angry blasphemer than for you (Revelation 3:16).
How do you keep your love for God and hatred of sin hot? Pray brother, pray!
Express your love and passions to God. Allow His Holy Spirit to shine His holy, pure and hot light into your soul. Like all deep emotional relationships, it will sometimes be uncomfortable and even volatile, but it will also be exciting and extremely rewarding.
Remember this dear brother, everyone goes to heaven or hell because of love and hatred; it’s what you love and hate that matters…and that is a matter of prayer.
