Today’s ONE THING: “Are you certain?”

Something that I have learned in my study of God is that He is purposeful and progressive in the way he leads.  He is not forever fretting over whether or not to change plans, professions and partners.

Instead God reminds us: “For I am the LORD, I do not change: therefore you are not consumed.”  (Malachi 3:6)

In other words, the reason we can keep our sanity and have peace of mind even when we fail and frustrate God to no end is because we know God doesn’t change.  We don’t have to worry if God is going to still love us when we fail.  We don’t have to worry if God’s going to keep his promises just because something has changed.  God is certain and as a result there is stability in this world.

On the other hand we humans…

I can’t tell you the times that I’ve had the “God’s leading me in a new direction” conversation with people over the years.  Really, how convenient is that that God changes His mind just when we are unhappy and want a change!  I can’t begin to count the times that people have decided that they no longer love someone.  Oh the times I’ve had to lead people through the “sinner’s prayer” yet one more time all because they don’t “feel” saved.

Please believe me, I understand, I’m human also and I have my weak moments.  However, there has to come a time that you figure out what you are certain about and then stick with your plans no matter what.  The “rolling stone” will never be a part of something that lasts.  The restless waves are only good for knocking sandcastles down.  You’re never get any traction in your life until you determine that this is where it’s going to happen, come hell or high water and you plant your feet firmly on that certainty and ride out the storms and doubts of life.

My dear friend, make up your mind!  Are you certain that you loved the person you married when you married them?  Then that settles it.  Are you certain God led you to your do what you’re doing now?  Then use extreme caution before changing.  A little more money or happiness is a huge price for getting out of the will of God.

Being in the will of God doesn’t mean that every moment is going to be sunshine and paradise.  However, you can be just as certain in a graveyard as you can on the gravy train.

Are you certain?  Then what’s there to talk about?  Stay focused.  Stay fixed.  Stay firm in your commitment to stand on the certain promises and vision that God has given you.
