Today’s ONE THING: “You can’t be ON all the time.”

As I sit down to write today’s blog, I am drawing an absolute blank.  I enjoyed a good devotional time this morning that included some inspiring and challenging Bible study and a couple good books.  I was part of a stimulating and productive staff meeting that included some great plans.   Bottom line, it has been a great day; nevertheless, I can’t think of one thing to write about – a complete blank – and that is what lead me to today’s ONE THING: You can’t be “on” all the time.  And here’s the good the news, those that love me and care for me understand.

The point is this, don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself and don’t allow others to do so either.  You are not going to hit a home run every day.  You’re not going to be Ms. Merry Molly every day nor Mr. Mighty Mike.  Sometimes the most courageous thing you can do is simply get up and press through yet one more day.

I can assure you that there have been Sundays I went to the pulpit where I was not at my best; however, I can honestly say that I always gave my best and that is all any man or woman can do.  Life doesn’t accommodate itself to our style or rhythms (ask parents of small children).  Sometimes you just have to play hurt, tired and weary.  But your best is your best and that is all that anyone can do.

Here’s the good news, those that love you with a healthy love will understand; and those that don’t, well don’t allow their dysfunction to add to the burden you are already carrying.

So get in there each day, give it your best and leave the rest to God.  In the end, it’s up to Him anyway.

Blessings and peace be yours.

P.S. I’ve just read back over these remarks and they’re pretty good for someone drawing a blank; but then again, I’m a preacher and preachers can go on and on about nothing forever if need be (Don’t you say “amen!” :))

  1. Good morning Pastor Kemp…love this one thing. My Momma used to say, “you can only do the best that you can and that is good for me”. She also said that the only opinion we have to worry about is God’s and what He thinks about us not what others do. My mother was Polish but she had a lot of wisdom. I said that because of all those Polish jokes. Have a blessed day and thank you again for taking the time to e-mail us everyday. You are a blessing…..Love Ann & Joe (your Romans) or should I say Sicilians.

  2. My sister-in-law, Kathy P., shared your blog with me. I also write a blog and I can so relate with the “blank” moments. I don’t write on a daily basis, but I’m so glad the Lord can use my whimsical moments to share my heart. Blessings from SW Missouri-Margo L.
