Living the examined life…

Reflection question:

What eternal truth(s) did I observe today?

Over the last few days the stock markets around the world have been gyrating like drunken sailors.  Up one minute, plunging downward the next.  Closing hundreds of points lower one day and closing hundreds of points higher the next.

The sad thing about this is that people are losing fortunes because they are confusing these rapidly changing facts with the unchanging truth.

The key to being a wise investor is having a solid long range plan and sticking with it.  Listening to the day-to-day noise will drive you crazy.  It’s like trying to hit the bull’s eye on a moving target; virtually impossible.

The financial markets are just one example of a greater issue.  In this age of streaming news that relates ever new and changing facts let me strongly encourage you to sit down sometime every day and reflect on eternal truth.  Basing your life on the turbulent facts that abound is like trying to stand still on a log that is floating in a river – you can’t.

Why not take the time to discover eternal truth to build your day and life upon?  Trust me, to not do this is to set yourself up for a miserable life.

Resting in the truth and the Truth,

Matthew 7:24-29 (NKJV)

24 “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
26 “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: 27 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.”
28 And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, 29 for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

One thought on “Living the examined life…

  1. Thank you for those words. They are tried and true. We sing a song in Sunday School about the wise man building his house upon the rock and the foolish man building his house upon the sand. i pray the song will stay with the children as they group up and enter the grown-up world. Want to thank you also for having us join Pastor Robin and Pastor Steve in Kid’s Church. They are absolutely the best and we enjoyed every minute of it. We are so blessed to have them!….Love Ann & Joe
