Forty more reasons for 40-days

Hello everyone!

I hope you are making it OK in the snow!  Sonja writes to her Sunday School class (Homebuilders) most weeks and this week she mentioned how difficult it would be to be shut up in the house over these last few days with a spouse you didn’t particularly like.  Thankfully, she made the point of saying that I was not one of those spouses.   But if you are one of those that has been shut up with some people who you wish would shut up well I’ve got good news for you – 40-days is coming soon and you can pray through over these last few days! 🙂

Sonja and me staying warm...

And speaking of our 40-days of prayer and fasting here’s forty more reasons why you should get involved in this year’s 40-days season:

  • Exodus 24:17-18 (NKJV) The sight of the glory of the LORD was like a consuming fire on the top of the mountain in the eyes of the children of Israel. 18 So Moses went into the midst of the cloud and went up into the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

One of the most famous and

One of the most obvious reasons we observe the 40-days season each year is for the same reason.  First of all we recognize that we cannot do what were are called to do without God’s revelation.  It may be stating the obvious, but it bears repeating: We can’t make “God” decisions (vs. good decision) without first hearing from God.

But here is the second important truth that must not be missed when it comes to getting involved in the 40-days: There are some things that will not be received from God unless and until we get alone with Him for an extended period.  Eternal truths do not come with a snap of our fingers.  God does not serve up his deep revelations from a microwave.  Repeatedly we see in the Bible the pattern of people getting alone with God for extended times of prayer and fasting before they received what they needed from God.  That pattern has not changed.

Bottom line, God will not allow us to regulate Him to the sort of relationship where we “work Him into our schedule.”  God will not be “penciled in” or allow himself to be added as just another item on our “To-do list.”  God understands our fast-paced 21st century living; but He also insists that we make time in our busy lives to declare that He is more important than anything going on at the moment and that we treasure more hearing from Him than anything else we could do with our time.

When we have that attitude we create the environment to really and truly hear from God.  It is my prayer that this year you will receive divine revelation for your life.  If you are like me, there are issues that I am dealing with that will not be resolved in my wisdom or the council of men; I need to hear from God, and I suspect that you do also.  I invite you to join me on January 19th for a 40-day season of being with God.

Blessings everyone,

dlk

  1. GM Pastor. During the past few days, “40 Days” has been on my mind and I’m thinking of joining you from a distance, here in Florida. Never before in my life have i been in such a place of “starting over” and need a fresh revelation from God.
I pray God will strengthen you like never before during these 40 Days!
    Bless you,
