100430: My new world of Facebook…

Hello!

The last twenty-four hours have been rather unusual for me / I have entered the crazy world of “Facebook.”  I have people requesting that I be their friend, “writing on my wall”, making comment that not only I can read but everybody else / or as my dad is apt to say, “Every Tom, Dick or Harry.”  (Whatever that it suppose to mean!)

For those of you who do not know “Facebook” is a social networking tool that allows you to interact with many people simultaneously.  Through I am not opposed to new technology; I’ve waited awhile to see if “Facebook” was just a fad that would soon be gone or something that would stick around awhile.  I’m convinced \ Facebook is here to stay.

Here is the reason why…

Facebook has been around for a long time \ matter of fact ever since Adam and Eve were in the Garden.  God made us to live in “Facebook” world \ we are social creatures and interacting with each other is vitally important.  As one poet put it, “No man is an island…”

The central location for interaction to take place on Facebook is “the wall.”  This is a place where people can write to you or you can write to them (many at the same time).  Pictures and videos can be posted there and I’m sure there’s much more that can be done.

But I want to remind you that people have been writing on people’s “wall” long before Facebook came along \ another word for “wall” is “souls” (you inner being / the “real” you).

You and I are writing on people’s soul every day.  Our words are either bringing healing or death / joy or sorrow/ they’re either building people up or tearing them down.  Facebook has reminded me of just how important it is to be careful what I speak into people’s lives.

Let’s determine to write only good things on people’s “walls.”  The overarching mission of the FMCOG is to be a “City on a Hill” that brings, among other things “Inspiration to people.”  Let’s fulfill the mission by writing uplifting things on people’s lives / deposits hope and encouragement.

One thing I’ve learned, unlike “Facebook” when we write hurtful and damaging things on someone’s wall it can’t be deleted / it stays there as a scare forever. “Oh God, please help us to have a healing heart / not one that brings pain.”

As far as my day, it’s been a fast-paced day.  I was up and at it early this morning.  Starting with Thursdays, I begin in earnest preparations my messages for the weekend.  So that had to be done, along with a daily devotional and also I had to prepare a lesson to be taught to ministerial interns this evening.  So it’s been a day of preparation.

In addition, I enjoyed a wonderful lunch with Larry Jackson and the group of men I meet with on Tuesdays.  I have prepared an upcoming devotional in which I will talk about today’s lunch (Monday, May 10th \ coming soon to a city near you!)

Sonja is in Six Mile tonight (“mother-sitting”) and I am in Greenville tonight having just gotten through with my session with the Ministerial Interns this evening / and Briana and the cats, “Mr. Frodo” (my dog) and “Mr. Bo” (my grand dog) are at home.  So we are spread out tonight / but thank God for “Facebook!” 🙂

Tomorrow our little town is having its Strawberry Festival.  A number of our people/groups are involved.  If you have time you may want to drive over and be a part.  Also, Young at Heart (our Senior Adult group) is having their monthly meeting (5:00 p.m.).  If you are 55+ I encourage you to join me and many other wonderful people for a great time of food, fun, fellowship and faith-building (bring a dish of “something” / the church supplies the meat).   Then at 6:00 p.m. Sonja and I will be leading our weekly Saturday prayer service / you are invited / it is a great way to close out the week and prepare your heart for Sunday (it’s sort of like a mini “40-days” service

A blast from the past / David Lee 2.0 / "Lee" / that's his mother in the background wearing my old uniform from my ice cream palor at South of the Border!

).

Well, that’s about it for now / blessings everyone!

  1. Pastor,

Truly enjoy reading your blogs. You have made me proud this week— iPad and facebook—one cool cat! HAHA

We are truly blessed to have you as our leader, and thank you for taking time to speak to us each day this way. It’s a joy to read, and I know it’s touching many people that you’ll probably never know of.

Love you and thankful for you! Be safe coming home!

  2. I love the picture. Lee was 8 months old and had just enjoyed part of a chocolate covered, cream-filled doughnut from JR’s Convienence Store which was across the street from our house in New Ellenton. Was that really almost 29 years ago??

I’m looking forward to being back home with you this evening.

    1. Yes dear, it was 29 years ago / how can you stay so young while I keep getting older? It’s not fair! But I’m not complaining 🙂
