Today I witness a prime example of a group of people not getting what they deserve – the Fine Art’s team. Pastor Jonathan had planned a special thank you outing for them and they deserved a warm, pleasant evening to have their event \ but what do they get? Arctic conditions (well, I may be stretching it a bit \ but I’m still wondering about this global warming stuff).
But they didn’t let that stop them as they joined together at Ebenezer park (Rock Hill) for a nice time of food, fun and fellowship. Pastor J asked me to be a part and I was privileged to make a few remarks. I thought I’d do a little something “different” (after all this bunch is different…in the B-E-S-T sort of way).
So following is my humble effort of expressing my love and appreciation to our great Fine Art’s team. I call it:
An Ode to the FMCOG Fine Art’s Team
My brave and intrepid Fine Arts’ Team!
What can I say? You’re the B-E-S-T far and away.
From A-Z \ I honor Thee!
From the altos to the zipper sew-ers of this grand company;
From the tech guys and gals up top … who take care of things chop, chop, chop,
To the heroes down in the dungeon below,
Under the old, old church…
You never leave us in a lurch.
Then there’s the dancers and actors who are such major factors…
In pointing us to the One we adore.
May God give us more dancers and actors galore,
Because they are never a bore but rather leave us crying for more!
And our orchestra and musicians?
Incredible, amazing, great, outstanding, super, wonderful, faithful, dedicated and beautiful (at least the women)…
Need I say more? Well why not…they’re everyone’s darling, they run the devil off snarling and leave the people quarreling…
As to who loves them B-E-S-T…
And my dear, dear Sounds of Praise…
You’ve been with me from day one, by my side, my joy and pride \ what a fun ride!
Why without you I’d be undone, I could no longer run…
And as far as fun there’d be none.
I take my hat off to you / God bless you / I can’t make too much ado about how I love you.
And what about our fearless leader?! (Jonathan Sawyer)
Wow, what a blessed man I am to have delivered to me a whopping 6’2” grandson that I never knew;
Too much for you? I think I have the flu!
But I love him / he’s the B-E-S-T, when he’s in charge I can rest (through I doubt you do) 🙂
Did I leave any one out / please don’t pout / You’re in the bunch and God knows and that is what it’s all about…
So thank you one and all!
Thank you for accepting the Call,
Thank you for giving your all,
In the big event and the small –
Through rain, sleet and thaw.
You give and give and bless our guests
But also all the rest you help progress;
Those in distress, those depressed, and those that need to confess – bottom line, you are all the B-E-S-T
So what to do?
Dream big! Dig!
Dare to believe that there is more / never let it become a chore
Grow / Glow / and know that I am always proud of you, pulling for you, believing in you, and praying for you.
One day soon we’re get the call – one and all – to rise to that fair strand and when we stand before the Lord of that land may we all hear – Well done good and faithful servants of mine who did your B-E-S-T to proclaim me with anointed zest so now receive your bequest and enter your rest \ but hurry choir practice begins in only a 1000 years!
So, there you have it…my humble, and slighty wacky and hopefully a little fun \ but very sincere effort at honoring a great group of dearly loved people.
I close this evening by offering my heartfelt best wishes to you and yours \ In Christ…be safe, secure and certain that He cares for you and will watch over you through the night.
God’s peace and rest be yours…

P.S. As a side \ I highly recommend the DVD from our Easter production. Sonja and I watched it while at Six Mile last week and it was great \ excellent quality \ you would not regret your investment.
Haven’t slowed down lately long enough to put a comment on this, but wanted to thank you again for coming out to be with us—but moreover for always supporting us and cheering us on! I truly love and appreciate you for being the Pastor & friend you are to me and countless others!
This “Ode” was GREAT! I have had people comment all over the place that read it after I put the link on facebook. You out did yourself—as always!
We Love You!!
Jonathan (your other grandson)
and the WHOLE Fine Arts Team!

Hey my “other grandson”!
It was a joy to be a part of your “chilly” but fun outing. As far as my “Ode” \ you have a way of bringing out in me things that I didn’t know was there (like blogging!) Its a good thing we didn’t know each other in my younger days \ I’ve a feeling we “preacher’s kids” would have been in a lot of trouble…but it would have been fun!
