Time – Use it wisely

Friday, May 15, 2009

Good “late” morning everyone!  It’s been a busy morning thus far, but I thought I’d take a short break to send out a “hello.”

I’m happy to report that yesterday’s “Sonja’s day” was a complete success.  We achieved everything on Sonja’s wish list and arrived back home last night around 9:45 p.m.!  Wow, what a day!  We were both exhausted.  Sonja’s “fun” day almost killed us!

However, I wouldn’t have missed it for the world.  Talking about it a few minutes this morning, we both agreed that there is no substitute for “time.”  Gifts, cards, quick kisses on the way out the door, calls, text messages – whatever; none of those things replace the simple act of carving out time for those we love.

As far as today, outside of my regular Friday routine, I am blessed to be a part of a very special weekend for the Barfield family.  Randy/Susan Barfield’s daughter – Rebecca is getting married this weekend.  It seems like only yesterday that “Becca” was running around with my own daughter and now she’s a beautiful young women getting ready to join heart and hand in marriage.  I’m so glad to be able to carve out a little time to spend with this dear family.  (Go Gamecock!  That is for Rebecca’s dad – Randy!)

Well, better get back to work.  Blessings everyone…

Prayer of the day…

Father God, today I am reminded of how faithful You are.  The Apostle Paul taught that Christ is the foundation upon which the Church is built upon.  Day in and day that foundation remains secure.  The weather changes, opinions change, our circumstances change but You never change.  You faithfully extend your mercy and grace day in and day out.  You continually hear our prayers and supplications answering according to your good pleasure – which is always in our best interest.  Your provisions pursue us and your angels protect us.  Bottom line, I rest in YOU today.

I will make all my plans based on your eternal steadfastness.  I lift up my family, my church family and all those who call upon You today with the blessed assurance that we are indeed carefully cradled in your mighty hand!  PTL!  Through Jesus – our everlasting Savior – I pray, AMEN.

 Affirmation of the day…

NOTE: These affirmations have to do with our health.

  1. Through Jesus Christ and by His stripes…I am walking in health and strength. (Proverbs 3:7-8)
  2. My back is strong and pain free because of the mercy of God and my commitment to be a good steward of the wonderfully made body that He has given me through exercise and proper diet.
  3. I shall live enthusiastically the life God has given me and do everything within my power to not die prematurely.
  •  Today’s affirmation reminds me that our lives are not our own.  Each day is a gift, not a right.  Through unwise decisions and unhealthy choices we can forfeit our right to receive the full allotment of days that God has planned for us.  The stewardship of our days is an awesome responsibility.  Oh God!  Please give us wisdom to manage wisely the gift of every day that You give us!

 Quotes of the Day:

  •  “A solitary Christian is almost a contradiction, because each are part of a larger whole. Just as there is something wrong when a brother or sister becomes alienated from the rest of their family, so there is something wrong when Christians refuse to have anything to do with their fellow Christians.  We are on this journey together, and God wants us to live the Christian life together.” _Billy Graham, The Journey, p. 127
  • “Work was never intended to simply be a distraction on the way to the weekend!” _H. Dale Burke, Less is More Leadership, p. 17
