“Since you’ve got to do it, why not do it with love?”
―David Kemp, March 2017 Tweet
My dear grands,
We all know there’s a little hyperbole involved when I call you virtually perfect (how can a Papa not think his grands are VPs?).
But the truth is, each of you are extraordinary and talented. There is a lot of possibilities and potential for each of you to be successful.
But know this: Success attracts attention!
The moment you start succeeding a target goes on you back.
Whatever it is you’re doing that is working will be copied. And here’s the deal, eventually someone will do it better (there’s always someone better than you at whatever it is you’re doing) and then someone else will do it better than that guy and pretty soon your great idea or achievement will just be the norm and you will be just another average guy or gal.
Bottom line, “success” is repeated and replaceable.
Even the numbers change.
For example, in 1982 the financial magazine, Forbes, started an annual “Forbes 400 Richest American List.”
That year it took at least 75 million dollars to make the list.
Ten years later, it took 300 million.
By 2002, it took 1 billion.
Now it takes 3.3 billion.
The multi-millionaire, back in 1982, with 75 millions would be laughed out of the room by all the multi-billionaires today. “What a loser!”
So be careful about buying into our “success culture.” Today’s success will be tomorrow’s dupe.
“Success” is replaceable, and so are successful people.
What is not replaceable is doing what you do for the sheer love of doing it.
What is not replaceable is you doing what you do to serve your neighbor and those you love and care for.
What is not replaceable is you doing what you do to bring the maximum glory and honor due to your Creator.
What is not replaceable is knowing you did your best and you did it for the right reasons.
Now that take success to a whole new level.
Love, Papa
