“Success: that’s the mystery. Virtue: that’s what’s inexplicable. To fail, you merely have to cultivate a few bad habits.”
―Jordan Peterson, 12 Rules for Life: An Antidote to Chaos
I remember hearing a preacher enthusiastically declare: “When I’m down to nothing He’s (God) up to something!”
He was right. And there were a lot of amens to support him.
Of course it is also right to acknowledge that when we’re at the top of our game, when things are going great, and we’ve got more resources than we’ve ever had that God is also – during that season – up to something.
Matter of fact, God is always up to something.
The question is, what are we up to?
We must never let “good preaching” inoculate us from taking responsibility for our lives. Remember, when we’re down to nothing it may be because we’ve made some bad choices.
Yes, God can come through for you, but life looks a lot different when He comes through your wise choices and hard work.
The ONE THING for today: In light of your current circumstances, what is the wisest thing for you to do next?
