Was Bill Clinton Secretly a Preacher?

“Being president is like running a cemetery: you’ve got a lot of people under you and nobody’s listening.”

_Bill Clinton

The ONE THING for today: People have to be able to see you being their pastor before they buy-in to you being their pastor. #LookingPastoral

“Successful presidential campaigns require three basic things. First, people have to be able to look at you and imagine you as President. Then you have to have enough money and support to become known. After that, it’s a battle of ideas, message, and issues.” — My Life by Bill Clinton

  • People have to be able to see you being their pastor before they buy-in to you being their pastor.
  • There is a minimal standard of what a good pastor looks like and what a good pastor does everywhere you serve.

What to do:

  1. Research the gold-standard pastors where you serve (do this generationally)
  2. Research the go-to pastors that your people enjoy listening to
  3. Research the norm in your community (geography plays a big role!)
  4. Align yourself according

Conclusion: I can hear you say, “I don’t want to be a hypocrite! I want to be real, to be myself.” Of course you do, we all do. What I’m asking of you is to be a real pastor – that is a role you play, and when you play it well you win the election (the hearts of your people).

  1. Wasn’t it the Apostle Paul who said he strived to be all things to all people. Far too many of our young pastors today see TD Jakes, Rod Parsley and others with their entourage and their dare I say it, security guards and they are more focused on being a celebrity than being a servant. Ah but why does this continue, far too many search committees are looking for a celebrity style of pastor instead of a servant. Look to make yourself the servant that Jesus called us as pastors to be. You nailed this one squarely dear brother.
