What is it you desire?

“If we find ourselves with a desire that nothing in this world can satisfy, the most probable explanation is that we were made for another world.”
― C.S. Lewis

When was the last time you heard about a blockbuster movie about a guy who had a vague idea about maybe someday doing something that mattered?

I’m guessing the answer is: Never.

Little kids don’t pester their parents about going to the local circus that includes boat loads of nothing to do.

People don’t put their money down to buy songs with no rhythm and melody line.

It’s hard to arrive if you have no place in particular you’re going.

Why aim if there’s no target?

Why try if there’s no goal?

Why live if there’s nothing to live for.

Desire…

Desire is the fuel that motivates, guides, and propels us forward.

And the more specific the desire, the more certain our lives will matter.

Opportunity not only knocks but joins hands with the man or woman who dares to name and declare what it is they desire.

A wasted life is not one with a multitude of failures and mistakes.  A wasted life is a life lived for mostly nothing in particular—an average person doing average things over an average lifetime until the law of averages caught up with them and they died.

And the people doing the eulogy will have nothing bad to say about them, but they’ll have nothing particularly good to say either except average and predictable generalities.

That’s no way to live or die.

The ONE THING for today: Life can get away from you quickly.  Don’t look back and see nothing but a long drizzle of mostly nothing…desire something, name it, go for it…it’s not too late.

One more thing…

But don’t let false modesty keep you from daring to desire something big. God never rebuked ambition and desire. He guided it, perfected it, and fulfilled it.

Here’s the patten…

Delight yourself also in the LORD,
And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Psalms 37:4
