Does Progress Always Require Change?

Honestly, sometimes I think change is overrated.

I get tired of people telling me I need to change, to get with the times, to modernize (whatever that means).

Maybe its my age (seems like I’ve heard that the older you get the less you like change) or maybe its just being human, because in my experience, most people are fine with change until it affect them!

I was thinking about this the other day while taking a shower.

The reason being…

Scientists tell us that about 300 million of our cells die every minute. So it occurred to me that along with the soap and perhaps a little dirt, going down the drain some of me was going down the drain too–at the rate of 300,000,000 cells a minute! (I cut my shower short that day before I completely dissolved down the drain.)

But anywho, it appears to me that no matter what we do change is a coming. The question is, will we use that change to make things better, or will we stick our feet in the mud and sing, “I shall not be, I shall not be moved.”

Or to put it another way, are we going to allow our lives to literally and figuratively go down the drain refusing to embrace change or are we going to contribute to the change so that we can leave this world a better place for those coming behind us.

Just in case you’re wondering, the latter option is called progress.

The ONE THING for today:
Change is inevitable, progress is optional.

It’s amazing what goes through your mind in the shower isn’t it? At least I didn’t torture Sonja by singing.

  1. As we get older especially if we lose our companion; there will be change. We have to live with it and give it to God to help us.

  2. My pastor! So full of wisdom. I guess at my age and all the showers I’ve taken, a lot of me has gone down the drain. I don’t like change: like you leaving , now Mark leaving. But praying God will send us who we need. I thank and praise Him. I’m sure Sonja loves your shower singing.🙌✝️🙌🥰
