I don’t understand…yet

Do not say you agree or disagree until you can say “I understand.”” _Mortimer J. Adler and Charles Van Doren, How to Read a Book

*****

Suspend judgment until a judgment is absolutely required.

  • It gives you time to gather more information
  • It gives you time to process the information you already have
  • It gives you time to realize how often you are wrong

Remember, you don’t know the full story. Not only are there two sides to every story, there are usually multiple sides to every story.

Life is complicated. Don’t make it worse by jumping to quick conclusions.

God knows, so it’s usually not important if you do.

God judges all things well and at the appropriate time, which means you don’t have to.

.

Suspend judgement. Wait. Practice humility. Postpone your doubts and fear. The story is not over. The drama is not complete. There’s another bend in the road. Who knows what will be there. But one thing is certain, when you get there things will clearer. In the meantime, suspend judgment until a judgment is absolutely required.

The ONE THING for today: Suspended judgment buys you time – time for grace to work, time for God to do his work, time for you to better understand.
