The ONE THING for today

Crazy farming

In the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:3-9), Jesus describes a farmer who sowed good seed but lost three-fourths of the crop!  Yikes!

The problem? The farmer just went out and starting slinging good seed everywhere. The good news is that when the seed landed on good soil it produced a fabulous harvest. The bad news is that when it didn’t land on good soil the harvest stunk.

In other words, how you sow the seed is just as important as the quality of the seed you sow.

Here’s what I’m getting at…

Is your reaction part of the problem?

You can mean well and even have the right answers and solutions in a situation (good seed), but still sabotage the results by your delivery (bad sowing habits).

For example, being defensive, impatient, argumentative, and condescending will destroy the harvest every time.

Being late, not keeping commitments, and fiddling on your phone until it is your turn…these kind of things really destroy a potential good harvest.

The ONE THING for today: Before you start slinging solutions out there, first, do the hard work of cultivating a positive and healthy relationship that considers other’s context and feelings.
