“Producing results is a key outcome of effective leadership.” _John H. Zenger and Joseph Folkman, The Extraordinary Leader: Turning Good Managers into Great Leaders
I get that, just make sure the “results” have to do with God’s calling and destiny upon your life. Remember, using this definition, Hitler qualifies as a very effective leader.
Be sure you are clear on the results you striving to produce.
For instance, don’t get ensnared in the numbers trap. Numbers matter—matter a lot. However, the numbers (attendance, budget, membership, etc.) are only indicators. Like the gauges on your dashboard, they tell you something and sometimes it is not what you think.
For example, when you look at your fuel gauge and see that your fuel level is on a quarter of a tank you don’t suddenly begin to question the quality of your car, you simply make plans to refuel. In the same way, there will be times that the results produced by your leadership will bring a decrease in the numbers. This could be a good thing. It’s tough when you’re going through it, but the saying, “sometimes you have to give up before you can go up” applies here.
- The ONE THING for today: Don’t lose yourself in trying to produce results that do not matter in God.
12 As others build on the foundation (whether with gold, silver, gemstones, wood, hay, or straw), 13 the quality of each person’s work will be revealed in time as it is tested by fire. 14 If a man’s work stands the test of fire, he will be rewarded.
1 Corinthians 3:12-14 (VOICE)
Very true, we can fall into the habits of seeing numbers as the fruits of our labour when God can be doing internal transformation in others that we can’t see. Thanks for sharing and all the best!
