- John 7:38 (NKJV) He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
Unless you enjoy hunting alligators for a living I bet your definition of success does not include being a “swamp person”. Yet I’m afraid many people are indeed “swampy” – they are bogged down and going nowhere.

The difference between a swamp and a pond is that a pond has clearly defined banks: the narrower the focus the greater the chance that you will discover a pond vs. a swamp. To press the example a little further: the difference between a pond and a river is that the river has even narrower banks.
This leads me to the second requirement needed in order to have success: Focus.
It is great if you have the ability to see things how they could be (see yesterday’s blog); but if you see how a dozen different things could be different you will probably just be a dreamer not a success. Only until you begin to narrow your focus will you begin to gain traction on the path to success.
The Apostle Paul declared, “This one thing I do” (Philippians 3:13). On another occasion he challenges his readers to run the race that is before them; not the races (Hebrews 12:1).
Bottom line, focus – the relentless, passionate and long-term pursuit of a singular goal (how something could be) is the vital key to becoming a success.
I’m afraid many people understand the downside to being a “swampy person” and thus organize their life enough to become a “pond person” // They settle down – content with a spouse, a kid or two, a dog and a cat, a job, a few good friends, a hobby or two …you know the routine.
While none of these things are bad in themselves don’t forget, a pond can simply be a swamp with clearer banks around it. Why not narrow your focus even more and become a “river person” – going somewhere with your life and taking those you love with you. It will be an amazingly more exciting, fulfilling and meaningful ride than paddling around in the back waters of a swamp or pond.
