Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

  • 2 Samuel 4:10 (NKJV) … when someone told me, saying, ‘Look, Saul is dead,’ thinking to have brought good news, I arrested him and had him executed in Ziklag—the one who thought I would give him a reward for his news.

This Father’s Day was one of the most special of my life for Sonja and I were able to gather both of my children and their families together for the weekend for a little family get-away.

Yesterday as I was packing up and getting ready to leave I had my grandson, David Lee with me; we were on a quest to find a luggage dolly. We checked high and low for one but to no avail (it seems everyone else had our idea as well). Finally after we had exhausted every spot that a luggage dolly may be hiding it became obvious that our search was in vain. It was then that David Lee looked up at me with a very serious look on his face and said, “Papa, are you thinking what I am thinking?”

That was the last thing I expected from my soon to be four-year old grandson. I couldn’t help but chuckle as I replied, “I’m not sure, what are you thinking?” (I mean, what does a four-year old think in situations like that?)The truth is, we seldom ever really know for certain what anyone is thinking. After almost 35 years of marriage to Sonja, we are often on the same wavelength; but then there are many times that I miss it by a mile.

That’s the case most of the time with all of us; we just think we know what the other guy is thinking. Remember that this week when you think you’ve got someone figured out. The truth is you probably don’t; better to give them the benefit of the doubt.
