- Matthew 13:3 (NKJV) Then He spoke many things to them in parables
We have lost the ability to tell stories.
We watch stories on television and at the movies but even that is being slowly drowned out in this quick one-liners and sound bites world we’re living in.
One-liners are great for transacting business because business deals with the bottom line. Leaving a short message on someone’s answering machine or a text message on their phone is great if the objective is giving a quick answer to a question. But remember, one-liners and sound bites do not feed the soul.
People are not business deals; people are not impersonal machines that can be programmed; people are relational; people are living souls that live in a story that goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden.
Today, instead of giving sterile presentations full of facts and data and instead of carrying on conversations via text messaging, Facebook and Twitter look people in the eye and say, “Let me tell you a story.” You’ll be surprised at how quick people stop what they’re doing and give you their full attention.
