Take me to your leader…

  • Revelation 5:5 (NKJV) But one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed…”

Charles Maurice de Talleyrand, one of the leaders of the French Revolution once said, “I am more afraid of an army of one hundred sheep led by a lion than an army of one hundred lions led by a sheep.”   lionandlamb

When reading Talleyrand’s words a few days ago I could not help but think of the Christian church.  After twenty centuries the Christian church is still a vital force in our world.  How can the church which is so full of flawed humans continue to exert such force?  How is it that hundreds of millions of people still flock to churches around the globe every Sunday singing the praises of God and declaring that his supernatural power is still changing their lives for the better?

I’ll tell you the answer: it is who our Leader is.

We weak and flawed Christians may be like sheep, but look who is up front leading us.  Apostle John described a conversation he had with a heavenly messenger who described our Leader: “Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed…”

He is saying that the secret of we “sheep-like” Christians is who our leader is – our leader is a LION!  And if you have not guessed by now, his name is Jesus Christ!

Even after all these centuries his name still evokes controversy and praise.  Wars are fought in his name, hospitals are built in his name, the hungry are fed in his name and the prisoner is visited in his name.  More books have been written about him than any other human that has lived and his book – the Bible – has sold more copies than any other book in human history.

People have tried to deny him, mock him, profane him and, when he lived on this earth, they even killed him.  But in spite of all their efforts our Leader prevailed!  Even death could not defeat him for our Leader is a LION!

With him leading our lives we do not ever have to despair.  We may be weak as sheep but fear not – Jesus the LION of Judah is our leader and He has prevailed!
