The Joy of Generosity…

  • untitledActs 20:35 (NKJV) I have shown you in every way, by laboring like this, that you must support the weak. And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Another lesson I was reminded of last Sunday when the Children of the World choir visited with us was the joy of being generous.

Being generous is a privilege; being a generous person is an even greater privilege.

I’m afraid most people are not as generous as they think they are. All but the worst of us will give to a needy cause if we have been skillfully manipulated (see yesterday’s blog). However, there is a world of difference between being generous at a given moment and being a generous person.

Being generous is an event; being a generous person is a view (the way a person sees life).

Most people will be generous when an opportunity comes knocking on their door; a generous person goes knocking on doors in order to find opportunities to be generous.

Bottom line: Being a generous person requires intentionality; it is managing your resources as if they belong to God and you are simply managing them for Him (Stewardship). It means you live below your means so that you have a surplus in order to give; it even means sometimes you give sacrificially and do without because a truly generous person knows that it is always more blessed to give than to receive.
