Don’t love dead things…

  • Jeremiah 2:5 (NKJV) Thus says the Lord: “What injustice have your fathers found in Me, that they have gone far from Me, have followed idols, and have become idolaters?”

Recently I was blessed to attend a pastor’s conference and one of the speakers (Tony Capps) made a statement that really grabbed my attention.  He said something that I think will stay with me the rest of my life; he said, “Never love anything that can’t love you back.”

Think of the ramification of this.

Think of the people you know who have allowed evil and twisted things like pornography, gambling, and other addictions to capture their hearts, minds and body – loving something that cannot love them back.

Then there’s the acceptable things like jobs, hobbies and possessions – loving things that cannot love us back.

Just think about it: Isn’t it alarming how easy something can capture our hearts and we find ourselves neglecting those people in our lives that really can love us.

Yeah, I thank Tony Capps for that little bit of wisdom…it’s a keeper.
