- Proverbs 3:4 (NKJV) Let not mercy and truth forsake you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart, 4 And so find favor and high esteem in the sight of God and man.
Like pistons in an engine that work in tandem, so must mercy and truth must work in tandem if we hope to succeed in life.
Some err on the side of mercy never confronting the “500 pound gorillas” in the room; others err on the side of truth and go around killing little “insects of conflict” with 500 pound sledge hammers. Neither is good and both do great damage to people’s lives.
Balance is required.
Pray for the wisdom to blend the two.
Bottom line, never compromise the truth by living a lie, but manage the truth wisely by wrapping it in mercy.
Hint: The wise are “custodians” of the truth. They understand that revealing the truth effectively requires correct timing and the correct words. Matter of fact, the wise go to their graves carrying many truths that only needed to be known, not shared.
