Bad seed…

  • Matthew 13:24-25 (NKJV) Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way.

Most people forget the second part of the “reaping & sowing” equation.

The first part of the equation is: You reap what you sow.

We get that, but what you may have missed is that you also reap what others sow.

  • If your co-worker blows it on the project you’re working on this week; get ready, you’re going to have to share in the harvest.
  • If someone you love does something really, really stupid; get ready, you’re going to reap a harvest of pain.

It’s just the way life is.

So, what to do?

Well, first, I’d make every effort to associate myself with people who sow good seed.

Second, focus on what you can control.  Don’t beat yourself up for what the farmer beside you sowed.  You can seldom control the seeds that others sow – whether wheat or tares – but you can keep sowing good seeds.  In the long run the goal is to out sow the “tare-slingers” and come harvest time, you’re be ever so glad you did.
