- Proverbs 11:14 (NKJV) Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Let me let you in on a secret about you and me: We don’t really know our weaknesses.
Oh we think we do, but the truth is we are only partially right. There are glaring blind spots and shortcomings in our lives that we are not even vaguely aware of.
To make matters worse, we are not that comfortable with honesty – especially if it comes in the form of criticism. Criticism, no matter how well put and well-meaning is painful.
Thus we muddle along through life with weaknesses and flaws that could easily be remedied helping us to take giant steps of progress toward being the sort of person we really want to be and for which we were created.
It’s time to go on the offense. And I have the perfect tool…
For most people, the only thing more dreaded than receiving criticism is giving face-to-face criticism. (That doesn’t mean people don’t criticize – they just don’t do it to our face!)
Recently, in looking back over my prayer journal I was reminded of a good question to ask of others. That question is this: “What’s the one thing you would do if you were me?”
I have found this question to be so helpful over the years. It has opened the door for some of my most helpful advice and has provided the insight for me to really make progress in my personal and professional growth.
I encourage you to give it a try – especially to those people you know love you no matter what.
