Loners are Losers…

  • Matthew 16:25 (NKJV) For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.

Before I jump into today’s ONE THING let me state one qualification. When I say “loners are losers” don’t confuse being alone with being a loner. Some more than others, but all of us need “alone time”, that doesn’t mean you are a loner.

So, what do I mean by being a “loner.”

Loners are people who make life about themselves. The irony is that loners can spend most of their time around people. They can be tremendously popular and be considered very successful. However, if you could peel away the façade you would discover a black hole of selfishness and self-centeredness.

Loners are people who do things because it matters to them. Loners give but only with the expectation that they will get something greater in return. Loners are friendly but only because it makes them feel good and they expect to gain personally from the friendship. For a loner, life is all about them.

Loners have no concept of sacrifice, no concept of loving “in spite of”, and no concept of truly giving without expectations of receiving something in return.

Loners are losers.

Because of their focus on self they lose the joy of being in relationships that have true intimacy. They never know what it’s like to have close and lasting “real” friendships. They miss out on the deep satisfaction of knowing there are people whose lives are better because of their sacrifice. And worst of all they never really know what’s it’s like to truly commune with God.

The antidote for being a loner is what it has always been…read about it in 1 Corinthians 13.
