Today’s ONE THING: The Distinctive Difference

  • Psalm 139:13 (NIV) For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

You are distinctive. You know this. You know that there has never been nor ever will be anyone else that is exactly like you. From your finger print to your retina signature to your DNA – you are distinctive.

It is those distinctions that provide you with the formula for significance and success. It is your “touch” that makes a place for you in life.

Take for an example cooks. They can use the very same recipe and yet there will be subtle differences in the outcome – the “personal touch.” Or as I like to put it concerning my wife’s meals – “Cooked with love.”

Think about my field: preachers use the same Bible and preach from the same texts and yet each preacher has a “personal touch” that makes them distinctive.

Don’t allow the crush of life to bruise your personal touch. Pressure to blindly conform to rules, regulations and policies; assembly lines and mass marketing; all these are just a few examples of the ways that you can forget your distinctiveness. But remember this, it is your distinctiveness that gives you an edge.  Anyone can blindly follow the letter of the law; but it takes someone willing to be distinctive who digs to discover the spirit of the law.

It is that edge that sets you apart and sets you up for the significance and true success that God created you for.
