- Psalm 100:5 (NKJV) For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, and His truth endures to all generations.
It was Sgt. Joe Friday who made famous the statement: “Just the facts, ma’am.” It was a happy day in my life when I started disciplining myself to stay focused on the facts.
Believe it or not, occasionally Sonja and I have “fought” (never physically). Over the years she’s hurt my feelings (and in the interest of full disclosure – I’ve hurt hers).
But back to Sonja (I’d much rather talk about her :))…
In the heat of the moment she would say things that hurt me and I’d get all defensive and shut down. Then one day it dawned on me to stop acting like an emotional child and to examine the facts. I’d remind myself that my wife had proven over and over through the years her deep and devoted love for me. The facts are: Sonja loves me. The facts are that everyone has a bad day every once in a while. The facts are people say one thing but we sometimes hear an entirely different thing. Need I go on?
Bottom line, I’d talk myself out of my pity party by focusing on the facts.
Dear friend – this works. Your life is too precious to run it on the fuel of emotions. Emotions matter but at the end of the day it is the facts that really matter. Don’t allow yourself to become side-tracked by temporary and passing issues that can blind you from the true facts. (Read today’s verse again!)
