- Romans 8:37 (NKJV) Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
One of the most important skills in life is knowing what constraints in life must be accepted and which can be transcended. For example, a banana is a banana any way you slice it. That is a constraint that you must accept. However, add a little peanut butter to your banana and you take the eating experience to a whole new level. (To push this example a little further, I’d suggest extra-crunchy peanut butter…but I drift :))
We’ve all seen people who go through life rebelling against the constraints of life. Examples of this are people who: Resist God-ordain authority, insist on having their way in every decision, and insist that life revolve around them and their schedule. You know the type, no matter the speed limit they want to go at their own pace and heaven forbid anyone get in their way. These sort of people are miserable much of the time and so are the people who have to live with them.
On the other hand, there are the people who accept the constraints of life to easily; they seldom ever transcend their situation. Tragic examples of this are people who continue to live in an abusive situation or allow a poor start in life to trap them in a poverty mindset, or allow themselves to become obsolete at their job because they were afraid to grow and take risks.
Dear friend, let me remind you that there are always options. Even in the most concrete constraint known to man – death, there are options. You can transcend death by living and dying well. You can transcend death by accepting Jesus as your Lord and Savior and thus have the sting of death taken away by turning death into the passageway to eternal life.
If something as certain as death can be transcended then how much more can the normal everyday frustrations and limitations of life be transcended. Don’t give into despair today – look for options. Look for ways to turn the “plain ole bananas” of life into a special treat. Peanut butter goes well with a lot of things!
