- Hebrews 10:24 (NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds…
I was not a serious student in High School or College. In particular, math was not one of my favorite subjects. However, there was one semester that I excelled. It was in algebra.
I know algebra is important and has helped mankind make great strides; but as for me, I could not get interested in it – it just didn’t make any connection with my world. My algebra teacher would ride me about my lackluster effort. Finally I made a deal with her: If I will make an A during one six-week period would she promise to leave me alone about my grades. She agreed and I achieved – my grade for the next six-week period was an A. I promptly went back to my regular “just get by” effort for the rest of the year. (To the great frustration of my teacher, but she kept her word :))
Now, I’m not proud of this but it demonstrates something: we excel at those things we care about and we settle for just getting by with those things we don’t care about.
Today we are 70% through our 40-days of Prayer & Fasting. “70” is a C (average). You can breathe a sigh of relief and begin to slack off on your commitment or you can press in and finish strong. It all boils down to what you care about.
