With a Focus on 40-days of Prayer & Fasting… Day-23/40 (58% Complete)

  • Psalm 73:21 (NKJV) Thus my heart was grieved, and I was vexed in my mind.

Regrettably my daughter has recently been dealing with some troubling physical issues. A few days ago her condition became so bad that we had to take her to the hospital.

I had a full day planned: meetings, pastoral calls that needed to be made, and a boat load of administrative issues that needed my attention. But Briana’s troubles cut through all that and demanded my full attention. All the other things were put on the back burner to be gotten to whenever. In the big scheme of things my daughter’s well-being trumped everything else and thus changed my plans.

That is what I want this season of 40-days of Prayer & Fasting to be for you: a time that you cut through the “stuff” and get to the core of what really matters to you going forward.

It is no secret that a part of my fasting regiment this year is giving up caffeine and sweets. However, if all that comes out of this 40-days for me is that I gave up a few cups of coffee and a few bowls of ice cream and spent a few extra minutes with God then I will have fallen far below what could have been.

Think in terms of “moral outrage”. Think in terms of “I must do this.” Think in terms of “indignant.” Think in terms of “life and death.”

There are some truly important issues coming at you in 2013. This 40-days of Prayer & Fasting is a time for you to get your attention from all the little things that eat up your life and take inventory of those few things that really matter.

Please don’t come through this 40-days just a few pounds lighter and with a little heavier prayer journal; come through it with a clear vision and conviction of something that you must do in 2013. It will be that passion that catapults you out of the realm of passive concern and into the arena of life-changing action…and there really is some critical issue screaming for your attention if you will only listen.
