With a Focus on 40-days of Prayer & Fasting… Day-17/40 (43% Complete)

  • John 4:29 (NKJV) Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?

Computers are such a common part of our lives today that most people cannot imagine life without them.  This was not always the case.  The company that had the first computer was called Univac.  Ever heard of them?  Here’s their story…

Back in the early 1950’s Univac had the most advance computer know.  It was especially designed for scientific work.  And so it did not even send a salesman out when a business showed interest in it; surely, it argued, these people could not possibly know what a computer was all about.

IBM was equally convinced that the computer was an instrument for scientific work: their own computer had been designed specifically for astronomical calculations. But IBM was willing to take orders from businesses to serve them.

Ten years later, around 1960, Univac still had by far the most advanced and best machine. IBM had the computer market.

That is the danger with 40-days.  Like the Univac executives who failed to see the real business they were in, the temptation is to think of 40-days of prayer and fasting as something you do and then when it is over you’re done with that and move on to something else.

Dear friend, don’t make that mistake!  40-days is not simply an event, it is an encounter – an encounter with God; and if you ever have a deep encounter with God nothing will ever be the same again…there will be no going back to the “old way” of living.
