- Romans 12:1-2 (NLT) And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
- 2 Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Be careful about “drawing lines in the sand”: making up your mind about your 40-days commitment.
I encourage you to be open to God’s revelation in your life. When you begin to fast food to feast on spiritual food your spiritual man begins to get more robust – you begin to “tune in” more to the voice of God.
Now that you are hearing more clearly, you may discover that God has a deeper and different commitment that He is asking of you.
40-days is about starting well, but even more important, it is about the journey. Be flexible. Be ready to make mid-course adjustments. 40-days is not about driving on the interstate (set the cruise control and settle back for the long haul) – it is the “scenic route” // God may have a path less traveled for you to take and it will make all the difference.
To do: take a few minutes today and reflect on your 40-day journey and prayerfully consider if you need to make any mid-course adjustments.
David, we’ve been reading your blogs since Jan. 1, and are greatly blessed by your insights. Today’s writing strikes us as the very heart of God … not just the 40 days set aside for the annual church-wide fast, but sacrificing ones body every day, all year long. Many Christians struggle with the forty days b/c they don’t live a “fasted” lifestyle year-round. Toni and I have been there and believe me, it is an excrutiating experience.
Hearing God’s voice is the only way to live by His faith, and that takes sacrificing our bodies daily. As you said, ” When you begin to fast food to feast on spiritual food your spiritual man begins to get more robust – you begin to ‘tune in’ more to the voice of God.”
We’re supportive of fasting for forty days, but it’s just a beginning point to being a daily sacrifice. In our minds this is true worship.
God’s speed as you continue feeding the flock at home and afar … you’re a blessing to all!
Sincerely His, Bill & Toni

Bill, you are so right. While the 40-days season is sort of a “shock to the system” event to help us get back on track; really “living a fasting lifestyle” is something devoted Christ-followers should do year round.
By the way, it was good seeing you and Toni at church Sunday // Sonja said you did a great job teaching in her S.S. Class.
Thanks for all you do.
Blessings to you & Toni, dlk
