Truthfully now…

  • Proverbs 17:7 (NKJV) Excellent speech is not becoming to a fool, much less lying lips to a prince.

Yesterday I wrote: If I had to give you just one thing that would make a huge difference toward making 2013 a better year for you it would be to do a better job at managing your words. This one thing would drastically improve your chances of having a successful year.

The first step I gave you was: Speak only what is necessary.

Today I offer another vital key to managing your words wisely: Speak the truth.

If only people would believe that telling the truth was the best way.

I really like Krispy Kreme donuts – especially when they have just come off the grease (I wish I could have stated that better but then I am writing about being truthful). But imagine with me if I ate a dozen or two Krispy Kreme donuts everyday…can you say, “Overweight” or worse yet, “Overweight corpse.”

Short term, indulging in donuts would be fun and even convenient. But long-term it would be disastrous.

The same is true with lying. Short term, lying may seem much convenient and appealing than telling the truth, but in the long run it will cost you…cost you tremendously.

I have a more to say about this but in keeping true to my comment to speak only what is necessary, it can wait until tomorrow.

For now, let’s just stick to the truth.
