Trouble focusing?

1 Timothy 3:2-7 (NKJV) A bishop then must not be covetous

Being covetous is: making other people and what they have achieved or accumulated your standard of happiness or success.

Or put another way, being covetous is a focus issue.

When your focus is on what other people are doing vs. what you’re doing you are setting yourself up for trouble.

For most of us, being covetous is as natural as breathing.

For example, nobody had to teach my grandchildren to be covetous.  Put two of them together and “it” happens.  If one has a toy the other wants it…you can bet the ranch on it…and the one that does not have the toy will try take it by force if required (thus the expression: “Weeping and gnashing of teeth!”).

I suppose that is why the issue made God’s Top Ten list.

However, you can control and even conquer your coveting tendency by changing your focus. Keep your focus on God not man. The more you breathe in the crisp, clean air of God’s love and mercy the more your heart will be filled with gratitude and thanksgiving and the more the standard of success and happiness will be pleasing Him and being with Him.

There will come a time that you could frankly care less what others are achieving and accumulating until eventually you will become so rich with God’s love and provision that you will be able to rejoice in the success that others are enjoying.

That will be a happy day.
