- 1 Timothy 3:2-7 (NKJV) A bishop then must be…not quarrelsome…
Husbands often say, “When mama’s not happy, nobody’s happy.”
You’d think women – wives especially – are a very quarrelsome group. However, that is not really the case: men have just as great a capacity to be quarrelsome as women.
The truth is, if it is really important to a man, trust me, he’ll quarrel about it – with his wife or anyone else that stands in his way.

Let your father and your mother be glad, and let her who bore you rejoice. (Proverbs 23:25)
What is really being said by the expression: “When mama’s not happy, nobody’s happy” is that most things that mama wants is not worth fighting about; it’s just better to let “mama” have her way.
Why can’t we learn that lesson in all of life?
Does it really matter if someone cut you off in traffic?
Does it really matter if you didn’t get your way the last time the choice was made where to eat?
Does it really matter if your opinion didn’t carry sway the last time there was a disagreement?
Do you always have to win?
Do you always have to have your way?
There are a few hills that are worth dying on. There are a few times that you must push back and insist that something be done your way (or better yet, God’s way).
But for the most part, not being quarrelsome is good, not only for the bishop but also for the member.
