Let Us Live at Least as Good as our Pastors by: Not neglecting the obvious!

  • 1 Timothy 3:2-7 (NKJV) A bishop then must be…able to teach…

You know, you’d think it would be obvious that a pastor must be able to teach, after all, that is a major part of what a pastor does.  Yet I’ve found myself going through seasons that I allowed other things to distract me from my essential duties and come Sunday morning I found myself in trouble.

Remember, whatever your role in life, there are a few essential “pay-the-rent” things that must be done.  When you compromise your efforts in that area you undermine your ability to be effective and if you persist you will eventually disqualify yourself from serving.

This is true no matter how good you are at other things and how much you enjoy them.

For example, having a great golf score, wearing the latest fashions and knowing the most hip movies and music is a poor substitute for a broken marriage, a ruined career and a lost faith.

So the ONE THING for today – whether pastor or plumber, parent or painter – keep the main thing the main thing – and do it with excellence!
