Let Us Lives as Our Pastors…and be Blameless

  • 1 Timothy 3:2 (NKJV) A bishop then must be blameless

Blameless – wow, that doesn’t leave much “wiggle room”!

Preachers don’t have the luxury of picking and choosing when they want to put on their “preacher hat.”  They pretty much have to be “on” all the time and in every situation.  They have to bat 1.000 every game.  They don’t get a day off from being a preacher.  It can never be their fault.  They can never be the blame.

Now is that possible?  Of course not.  At the end of the day, preachers are just like everyone else – they bled, they get mad, they fail, they sin…they need a Savior.  They need mercy from their Savior and their congregation.

But the point is this: There are some things you do that are so important that perfection must be the standard.

You don’t want a surgeon operating on you that is satisfied with “most” of his patient’s living do you?

You don’t want an airline pilot who is satisfied with landing safely “most” of the time do you?

You don’t want a Youth Camp Director that is “pretty sure” that you kid got tucked in safely for the night do you?

You don’t want a banker that promises that you will “probably” your money back do you?

Get the picture?

Yesterday I discussed with you daring to believe in yourself.  I reminded you that it is both possible and desirable to do and be something great for the glory of God.

I don’t take those words back, but I do remind you that great positions come with great responsibilities and great people have a higher standard exacted upon them.

For example…

  • Marriage is too important to settle for anything less than blameless.
  • Brought children into this world?  Be blameless as a parent.
  • Accepted a job?  Be blameless in the execution of your responsibilities.
  • Made a promise?  Be blameless in keeping your word – no excuses.
  • Call yourself a Christian?  Be blameless in carrying the name of the King of Heaven.

Will you bat 1.000?  No.

Will you need mercy and forgiveness?  Yes.

But live at least as well as you expect your pastor to live…make being blameless your goal.
