I Wish You’d Change Your Opinion About Something

  • John 8:32 (NKJV) And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

I wish I could get people to change their opinions.  That’s my real calling.

Most people think knowing the truth is enough.  You know, Sergeant Joe Friday’s famous, “Just the facts, ma’am.”  However, most people never take the time to discover the qualifier that goes with the famous statement by Jesus: “The truth shall set you free.”

The qualifier is: You have to first believe in Jesus (John 8:30).  In other words, to those who changed their opinion about Jesus discovered that life opened up for them in a new and liberating way.

I remember a number of years ago going through a real identity crisis.  As I began to move up the ranks a bit in my denomination, I found myself becoming cynical, critical and even bitter.  As with any manmade organization, there are going to be imperfections and the price for being in leadership is that you have a better chance to learn of some of those imperfections.  However, the flipside of that equation is that the purpose of leadership is to try to make a difference in spite of and sometimes through those imperfections.  I forgot that and allowed myself to become a person I didn’t really like.

I’ll never forget a “come to Jesus” meeting I had with myself.  It occurred to me that the leaders in my denomination were not evil and wicked men who were trying to rip people off and/or destroy lives.  They were men just like me – sincere, God-called ministers full of imperfections and weaknesses that God was still working on.  Just like that, I changed my opinion of them and everything changed from that moment forward.

Anytime I find myself drifting back into my old negative way of thinking I remind myself that my opinion has changed and it gets me back on course.

What about you?  What areas do you need an opinion change?

Take your past for example. There is not one thing you can do about your past, but you can change your opinion about your past.

How many people do you know going through life bitter and broken because of a bad past?  Just think how their approach to life would change is they’d change their opinion and say: My past – sure it was bad, but it taught me some things NOT to do.  It allows me to understand and help others.  It taught me to endure.  It’s scars has earned me the right to step up and lead today.

Bottom line, you are one opinion change away from a better life.

Why not change today?
