What Hills are You Willing to Die On?

  • 1 Corinthians 2 (NKJV) And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. 2 For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Going through the process of interviewing candidates to be our next Children’s Ministries director has been interesting.  I have had the privilege of meeting some extremely bright and educated candidates.  However, in the interviewing process one question that I often ask is: “What hills would you be willing to die on as far as your Christian faith?”

It shouldn’t take long to answer this question.  Just in case you’re applying, a short list would be:

  1. Justification by faith through Jesus Christ alone (saved by grace)
  2. The Incarnation (Jesus: the sinless “God/man” coming to earth to be our substitute and to provide the way for us to have eternal life.)
  3. The resurrection (without this our Christian faith is meaningless)

Do you see anything that all three have in common?  They all are centered around Jesus Christ.  As the Apostle Paul learned, you can know a lot of things in life, but, in the end, there is only thing that truly, truly matters and that is knowing Jesus Christ and him crucified.

I’ve often stated it this way:  Christianity is about making Jesus the paramount passionate pursuit and priority of your life.

You can have diplomas and certifications enough to fill a wall.  You can be so smart that you can “out Einstein” Einstein; but in the end, all that really matters is whether or not you know Jesus Christ and Him crucified.

Acts 4:13 (NKJV) Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

  1. Amen to that Pastor Kemp. Knowing Jesus Christ and living your life for Him is all that matters because if you do that all else in life will fall in place….Have a blessed day and we loved your sermon yesterday….Love St. Ann & St. Joseph xxx
