Today’s ONE THING: Are You Fair-minded?

  • Acts 17:11 (NKJV) These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

One of the things that will set you apart is your willingness to be open to new ideas and the changes they may bring.  Many are like the people from Thessalonica in Paul’s day.  When Paul came to town preaching the good news about Jesus they resisted and ran him out of town.  However, the people of Berea were more “fair-minded” than those in Thessalonica, for they were willing to listen and research whether Paul was right or not.

Robert E. Quinn in his book Building the Bridge as You Walk On It, sums it up well: Some people argue they are too old to change.  This really means, “I am too lazy to practice responsible freedom.

Being fair-minded doesn’t mean you embrace every new idea, but it does mean that you are secure enough to at least listen to someone else’s point of view.

How refreshing would that be in this age of caustic partisan politics and narrow-minded elitism?
